Do Some Facelift Techniques Last Longer Than Others?

Filed under: Facelift and Neck Lift Surgery — Dr. Greenwald @ 7:10 pm

A common complaint that Dr. Joshua Greenwald hears is, “I look older than I feel.”

Unfortunately, as individuals age, they may find that their skin is starting to sag or lose elasticity. Jowls may become more prominent. Cheeks may seem flatter than they previously did, or deep nasolabial folds (i.e., smile lines) may emerge. One or all of these changing facial features may make an individual look older than he or she feels at heart.

Fortunately, Dr. Greenwald offers several types of facelift as a solution for facial aging. He affords his patients the gift of youth, or at least the gift of looking and feeling more youthful.

The Longevity of Facelift Results Depends on the Facelift

Still, the one question that facelift patients have is, “How long will a facelift last?” The answer is that it depends on which type of facelift the patient chooses, as well as individual factors, such as the patient’s skin condition or if the patient smokes.

For instance, the results from threadlift usually last from six months to one year. Threadlift combined with undermining (i.e., facelift that is carried out with a self-dissolving device that attaches onto the brow or cheeks) generally lasts longer than threadlift alone.

The results from minilift typically last two to four years. Undermining, advancing and suturing tissue into a new position during minilift may offer patients a permanent benefit. It is important to note that patients will continue to age, but minilift and other types of facelift keep patients ahead of the curve.

Results from revision facelift generally last two to seven years. Because some tissue advancement has already been performed at the time of revision facelift, revision facelift surgery will not necessarily have the same rejuvenation results as the original facelift did.

Facelift with the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) and volume restoration typically affords patients visible results that last from five to eight years. Results for younger patients with minimal facial aging may last less than results for older patients who undergo multiple supplementary procedures at the same time as the SMAS lift.
