How to Eliminate Loose Skin Around Your Thighs

Thigh lift in Carmel

Many people struggle with loose, hanging skin around their thighs. As you age, your skin loses elasticity and can’t snap back into place as easily, which leads to sagging skin on the face and body. Men and women who have lost significant weight may struggle with loose skin and poor skin quality more than others. Hanging thigh skin is more noticeable after weight loss and often causes skin rashes, chafing, bleeding, and discoloration. Our board-certified plastic surgeon at Greenwald Plastic Surgery offers thigh lift to renew your lower body.

How Does Thigh Lift Work?

Thigh lift starts with a consultation with Dr. Joshua Greenwald. People who are at or near their goal weight and have maintained their size for at least a year may qualify for thigh lift surgery. You should not smoke and must be in good overall health to ensure a safe procedure.

Dr. Greenwald performs thigh lift and other plastic surgeries at an accredited surgical facility. The procedure starts with marking the incision lines on your inner and/or outer thighs, and Dr. Greenwald may position your loose skin at different angles to determine the best surgical technique. Thigh lift requires general anesthesia, so you’re asleep during the surgery.

There are several incision techniques for thigh lift. The medial (inner) thigh lift involves an incision in the groin that stretches to the back of the thigh under the butt or a vertical line from the knee to the groin. A bilateral (outer) thigh lift creates an incision in the groin that goes around the hip and across the back waistline. Another technique makes one incision from the groin to the buttocks to access the front, back, outer, and inner thigh tissues.

Thigh lift typically takes two hours but may last longer if combined with liposuction or another plastic surgery. Dr. Greenwald removes the redundant skin, tightens the muscles, and repositions the tissues for a smooth upper leg. Deep tissue sutures support the new thigh contour, and skin adhesive, stitches, or clips close the incision.

What Are the Benefits of Thigh Lift?

Thigh lift can sculpt your inner and/or outer thighs for a youthful, taut lower body. It’s often combined with liposuction for enhanced results, and breast augmentation, tummy tuck, and buttock augmentation can also complement thigh lift surgery.

Thigh lift patients enjoy a smoother, thinner thigh shape and may no longer struggle with chafing from the loose skin. Wearing shorts, a skirt, or a bathing suit with hanging skin on your thighs can be embarrassing and painful due to thigh rubbing. These discomforts are greatly improved or eliminated after thigh lift, and self-esteem increases with a better-fitting wardrobe. Patients with cellulite or dimpled skin on their thighs may experience an added benefit: thigh lift may reduce cellulite if it’s within the excess skin tissue.

Another thigh lift benefit is improved mobility. With no more chafing or skin rashes, you can go for a workout or jog without discomfort. Many patients find activities more accessible and appealing after thigh lift because the loose skin is gone, and they feel comfortable in their bodies.
