Injectables and Minimizing the Signs of Aging

Facial Rejuvenation Injectables

When it comes to facial rejuvenation, not all injectables are created equal. Each cosmetic injectable product is designed and FDA approved for a specific cause or causes. Although experienced injectors may use products for “off-label” or non-approved uses, there are a few hard-and-fast rules – i.e., an injector will never use Botox to plump up a smile, or Kybella to fill in laugh lines.

When evaluating the injectable that is right for your needs and goals, it helps to have the expertise of a talented plastic surgeon or injector. Here, Dr. Joshua Greenwald of Greenwald Plastic Surgery shares some general guidelines that may help you as you weigh your options.

Soften Crow’s Feet or Forehead Lines with Neuromodulators

If you are bothered by noticeable crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles or vertical lines between your forehead, Botox, Dysport and other neuromodulators are probably your best bet. These products temporarily relax the facial muscles that contract and cause visible lines or wrinkles; as the muscle relaxes, the overlying line or wrinkle becomes less noticeable.

Fill in Lines around the Nose and Mouth with Hyaluronic Acid-Based Fillers

Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are an excellent option for wrinkles and creases in the midface and lower areas of the face, including the nose, mouth and chin. When injected underneath the skin, the filler cushions the area, so it looks smoother and plumper. HA fillers also help draw moisture to the area for even softer and more supple skin.

Fine lines and wrinkles are often treated with fillers that have a thinner consistency, such as Restylane and Perlane. Deeper wrinkles, severe folds or hollow areas of the face may be better treated with a thicker filler such as Juvederm and Sculptra. The Juvederm family of products includes fillers specifically intended to plump up cheeks and fill in deep wrinkles along the cheeks and jawline.

Dissolve Unwanted Chin Fat with Kybella

Kybella is a unique type of injectable that actually reduces volume in the treated area instead of adding to it. When injected underneath the chin, Kybella breaks down unwanted fat, which dissolves in the weeks and months following treatment. Over time, the treated area looks slimmer and more defined for an overall youthful look.

Ultimately the filler or fillers that are right for you depend on your specific concerns, unique anatomy and goals of treatment. To discuss your needs and goals with our team, please schedule an appointment by calling or sending us an email.
